Coolants and brake fluids, cleansing and other products

If the car engine is liquid-cooled, the cooling system has to contain a suitable coolant. The so-called antifreeze fluids (produced in the Czech Republic under the trade name FRIDEX) are based on ethylene glycol with anti-corrosive additives. These fluids are diluted with distilled water according to the expected ambient temperature. The less water, the lower the freezing point. The freezing point given by the manufacturer for a 1:1 dilution is -40 oC. The new product, FRIDEX EKO, has the non-toxic propylene glycol as base.

Brake fluids are produced from glycol ethers with polyglycols, and contain, as a rule, anti-corrosives. They have to have a low freezing point and a high boiling point, have to be stable, and their viscosity should not be too temperature-dependent. The most commonly used type SYNTOL HD 205 has an operational temperature range of -40 oC to 205 oC.

Other chemical products include a variety of cleansers and preservatives. For instance, the product ARVA, used for removing greasy impurities from the engine, consists of a mixture of organic solvents and emulsifiers. The new product ARVA EKO does not contain chlorinated hydrocarbons and aromatics.

Windshield sprayers are filled with an antifreeze fluid containing alcohols, detergents and anti-corrosives.
