QUESTIONNAIRE FOR PRAGUE CAR DRIVERS

Students of the Masaryk Chemical School in Prague 1, Køemencova 12, would like you to answer several questions. The information so provided will be used for elaborating a competition project ” Chemist’s view of the automobile ". This project has been submitted to an all-European contest for students, organised by the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) and, in our country, by the Chemical Industry Union of the Czech Republic (CIU).
 

1. I drive a car the age of which is

 
a) less than 5 years b) 5-10 years c) 10-15 years d) more than 15 years
 
2. The mileage I cover in a year is
 
a) less than 10 000 km b) 10 to 20 000 km c) more than 20 000 km
 
3. I drive into the centre of Prague  
a) daily  b) often c) rarely d) never
 
4. The air we breathe at street junctions in peak traffic hours seems to me  
a) relatively good b) not good but still bearable
c) very bad, somebody should do something about it
 
5. Is your car equipped with catalytic converter ?
 
a) Yes b) No
 
6. If you are driving your car daily to the work but do not need it for your work; are you willing to use public transports instead to improve the environment?  
a) yes, every day b) no c) yes but only in smog periods
 
7. In your opinion the most efficient measure to improve the urban environment would be  
a) introducing catalytic converters b) administratively curbing automobile traffic 
c) building new roads, overpasses, etc. 
 
8. Do you know something about car exhaust emission pollutants?     a) I am well informed about these pollutants and their environmental impacts
    b) I do not know much about it and believe these things should be more publicised - especially in TV
    c) I know that these pollutants are harmful but I have no need for more detailed information
9. I think that the composition of the fuel     a) affects the emission composition
    b) has no effect on the emission composition
10. What is your opinion of the relationship between chemical and car industries?

a) Chemistry and chemical industry have nothing to do with cars
b) I admit that chemical industry has some importance for the car industry
c) Chemical industry is indispensable for the car industry

11. When the world oil reserves (which are estimated to hold for several tens of years only) have been exhausted, in my opinion

  a) Passenger car transportation will disappear
  b) Chemists will certainly find ways of producing fuel from other sources and the traffic will be as today
  c) The transport vehicles will be electromobiles, chemists will certainly discover new better types of storage batteries.
