Other activities
In order to subsume our project into all school life we did some extracurricular play fair activities in November and December. However far from the sport concept of "fair play" these activities might seem, we strongly believe that they could contribute to the general and broad understanding of our common subject- various aspects of "(un)fairness"- prejudice, oppression,... 2nd November 45 students and three teachers visited the Memorial and Museum Auschwitz - Birkenau in Poland. The same purpose as Auschwitz led us to the Jewish Museum. The students from the first year attended an interesting lecture about Jewish religion, traditions, customs and history. This should help better understand and accept foreign traditions and avoid a culture clash. Our visit to the museum was a couple of days after the "Crystal Night" anniversary when Czech Neonazis were prevented from a planned provocative march through the Prague Jewish Town. Click on the photo to open the gallery Czech Press Photo Class L3. visited the exhibition Czech Press Photo which brings authentic picture report about life. The categories were spot news, general news, people in the news, daily life, sports, portrait, nature and environment and arts. Each student chose one photo and later they discussed the impressions from the exhibition in the class. The winning photograph by D. Materna "Distraint of a Child" expressed by coincidence best the idea of play fair. Unfortunately we cannot "steal" it for our calendar! Some of the impressions: We invited to our school two elderly ladies, who were persecuted under the communist regime. The life was very "unfair" to them. The elder lady was a former political prisoner. She was sentenced to prison as a 16-year-old innocent girl, her boyfriend was hanged. Both ladies told us their awful and shocking life stories. This experience could help our students recognize and fight all signs of totalitarian regimes of all kinds. We, of course, included sports into our project, too. The students from the class F4. and their form teacher Mrs.M.Mlynářová made Christmas presents for children in a Prague orphanage and subsequently brought them to their home. This charity helped our pupils realize that they should help less fortunate people and do it in the ways they are able to. Mgr. Zuzana Jušková |
