January - April
Our first formers (graders) also worked on "Ethical Issues". They were interested in following topics: The winning teams of the Play Fair Basketball Tournament (boys and girls) were awarded at the assembly in the school gymnasium. On 15 February we once more visited the Auschwitz Memorial in Poland. This time with first and second formers. About forty students (first and second grades) prepared essays and presentations about half forgotten heroes of our recent history. These brave people who played fair for conscience´s sake, risking and sometimes sacrificing their careers, freedom or even lives are unfortunately less known than today´s celebrities and they definitely deserve to be reminded and honoured. In January there was a small exhibition at school. Soon we plan to translate these profiles into English for our foreign partners.
In this connection we visited the former prisoner camp "Memorial Vojna" where opponents of the communist regime were imprisoned in the 1950´s. In the midst of the forest, 5 km south-east from Příbram, on the place which was famous for occurrence of iron, silver and uranium ores, there used to be a labour camp built by German war prisoners between 1947 and 1949. It was named after the Vojna Mountain (666 m) dominated near-by. Analogous camps were also in the Jáchymov and Slavkov Districts close to the deposits of strategic uranium ore.
In March thirty adult "school people" (not only teachers) voted four photos which will be through to the finals at the Šala meeting.
And finally our "Modern Citizen´s Commandments" project: 1) A good citizen is ready to give more than he or she expects to get. 8 April 85 second-formers visited Terezín Memorial. On April 21 the students of the first and second years attended the educational programme about Sir Nicholas Winton.Click here. Mgr. Zuzana Jušková |
